When conducting user research, it is your responsibility as the researcher to ensure participants are in no way harmed or stressed as a result of their involvement in the research. Here are 3 things you should consider when conduction user research: 1. explain to participants the purpose of the study and give them the opportunity to ask questions before they sign the consent form 2. clarify that you are not testing them or their ability to use the product but the product itself and 3. remind them they have the right to leave the session at anytime if they feel uncomfortable (even after signing the consent form). If despite all this, their frustration levels get too high, it’s your responsibility to move the conversation on or finish the session early.
